91´«Ã½
CHICAGO – Rebecca J. Morris, teaching associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh, has been elected 2023-2024 chair of the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS). Morris’s term will begin during the 2022 91´«Ã½ Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
“The paths that we follow through school librarianship benefit from connecting with the leadership and experiences of others,” said Morris. “When we build professional relationships across this unique field uniting education and library and information science, we build our capacity to contribute more to our school communities. AASL members engage with vigor—and not only that, they encourage others to take part! As ESLS chair, I am eager to help school librarians learn more, grow new skills, and expand their perspectives.”
Morris is a member of AASL, the Young Adult Library Services Association, and the Association for Library Service to Children. She has served various leadership roles for AASL including participation in the CLASS (Causality: School Libraries and Student Success) Summits, member of the AASL Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation Coordinating Committee, and member of the AASL/ESLS Community of Scholars. Morris is also an active volunteer leader for the Association for Library and Information Science Education.
“AASL will be well guided by these phenomenal leaders,” said AASL Immediate Past President Kathy Carroll. “I want to thank them again for making the commitment to serve their national association in this capacity. It is only with talented, dedicated volunteer leaders that we can continue to move the association, and the profession, forward.”
