91´«Ã½ publishes state legislative toolkit for legislative advocacy

91´«Ã½

CHICAGO, IL - The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) has published a State Legislative Toolkit to help organizations advance state legislation that supports libraries, library workers, and the communities they serve. Authored by the Public Policy and Advocacy Office, in partnership with the Office for Intellectual Freedom, the toolkit reflects input from 91´«Ã½ member groups across the association and was developed in conjunction with the state legislative summit in October.

Every year, state legislatures see thousands of bills introduced, some of which can affect libraries’ ability to provide access for patrons. The State Legislative Toolkit offers advocates guidance to effectively navigate legislative sessions proactively, as well as respond to adverse legislation; tools and resources for developing well-written library policies; contact information for 91´«Ã½’s intellectual freedom and legislative support services; and more.

“Legislative advocacy is not a one-time effort,” said 91´«Ã½ President Patty Wong, “nor is it the job of one committee or individual. 91´«Ã½ is committed to helping our partner organizations achieve their legislative goals with expert consultation, continuing education and training, and resources like this new toolkit. We are stronger advocates when we plan and work together across our library ecosystem.”
