CHICAGO – During its 2021 National Conference, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) will host a screening of the award-winning documentary “Trust Me” followed by an opportunity to discuss the film with its producer. The screening finds a natural home at the only national conference dedicated to school librarians as the film highlights the crucial need for school librarians in their role as media literacy educators. “Trust Me” is a feature documentary that explores manipulation and misinformation at the intersection of human nature and information technology. It explains how this intersection drives a need for media literacy and uses compelling human stories, facts, and experts to show empirical realities and the right way to consume media.

“The documentary ‘Trust Me’ is a powerful compilation of the dangers and pitfalls of misinformation in today’s social media-addicted society,” said Liz Philippi, conference co-chair. “This film will not only help you understand the problems and issues of information manipulation, but also remind you that we can really make a difference through teaching the importance of being information literate. Prepare to be blown away!”

A 60-minute version of the documentary will be screened for all conference attendees on Friday, October 22. The complimentary screening will be followed by an optional ticketed event, “Dessert with the Director,” where attendees will have an exclusive opportunity to engage in conversation with Rosemary Smith, the Impact Producer of “Trust Me” and managing director at the Getting Better Foundation (GBF).
