Three manuscripts awarded AASL Research Grants

CHICAGO – Three manuscripts have been awarded the 2021 American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Research Grants by the Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) of AASL. Sponsored by ABC-CLIO, the grants recognize excellence in manuscripts addressing a persistent and recurring challenge in the field of school librarianship. Each grant consists of a $350 award and the opportunity to present the paper at the 2021 AASL National Conference
Recipients of the 2021 AASL Research Grants are:
- Ann Ewbank, Professor and Head, Department of Education, Montana State University, “Place Consciousness: A Narrative Inquiry of the Advocacy Practices of Five Rural/Frontier School Librarians”
- Margaret Merga, researcher and author in libraries and literacy, Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia, “Collaborating with Teacher Librarians to Support Adolescents’ Literacy and Literature Learning”
- Heather Moorefield-Lang, Associate Professor, UNC Greensboro, and Ana Dubnjakovic, Head of Music Library, University of South Carolina, “Factors Influencing Intention to Introduce Accessibility in Makerspace Planning and Implementation”
“Each year we seek studies that can add to the corpus of literature that supports our field,” said Daniella Smith, grant committee chair. “The winners were selected because they have addressed timely subjects while engaging in research that connects theory to practice. Making the connection is vital to ensuring that practitioners and researchers alike can benefit from examining the results.”
The AASL award winners will be recognized during the taking place October 21-23 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 2020 and 2021 AASL Research Grant recipients will present their papers as part of concurrent sessions during the conference.
