Call for Volunteers for New Sustainability Committee
91´«Ã½
91´«Ã½ President Julius C. Jefferson, Jr. and 91´«Ã½ President-Elect Patty Wong are pleased to announce a call for volunteers for the Sustainability Committee, a newly created standing Council committee. All interested volunteers should submit an interest no later than March 28, 2021.
Established by 91´«Ã½ Council in January 2021, the Sustainability Committee’s charge is to provide the necessary leadership and monitoring of 91´«Ã½ strategic initiatives that will infuse the core value of sustainability throughout the policies, procedures, practices of our association and our professional activities, in collaboration with the 91´«Ã½ Board and President, 91´«Ã½ Council, 91´«Ã½ divisions, 91´«Ã½ offices and units, 91´«Ã½ round tables, 91´«Ã½ committees, 91´«Ã½ affiliates and 91´«Ã½ staff so that our association and its members contribute to the development of sustainable and resilient communities. In particular, this committee will maintain a working relationship with several 91´«Ã½ offices and groups to affect meaningful sustainability-related outcomes and model best practices across the association. Click for more details from the Council motion creating this committee.
Committee Membership will consist of ten (10) members, including one Chair appointed annually:
- One (1) representative from the Sustainability Round Table
- One (1) representative from the Committee on Legislation
- One (1) from the International Relations Round Table (IRRT) International Sustainable Library Development Interest Group
- Seven (7) members with two-year, staggered terms to be appointed by 91´«Ã½ President-elect in consultation with the Committee on Committees
Please note that for the initial appointments, President Jefferson and President-elect Wong will jointly appoint the seven members and Chair to begin immediately. Four (4) Members will have terms through June 2023. Three (3) members will have terms through June 2022. Regular staggered, two-year membership terms (July – June) appointed by the President-elect will begin thereafter.
Sustainability is a core value of the 91´«Ã½, and committee members will have the opportunity to guide this vital work. Serving on a committee also provides members with leadership training, networking opportunities, and experience in working on specific association topics. All interested members are invited to indicate their interest. Again, please submit this form no later than March 28, 2021.
