LLAMA webinar offers a more effective way to give employee feedback

*A note on COVID-19: We know many of our members are working virtually, and LLAMA will continue to support you with continuing education opportunities. For the remainder of the pandemic, the group registration link will be sharable with as many individual staff as necessary so that each can view the webinar separately and safely. In addition, the student registration rate will be lowered to just $5.00. If you have questions please contact Fred Reuland at freuland@ala.org.

One of the oldest and easiest methods for delivering feedback to employees consists of sandwiching a piece of negative feedback between two or more pieces of positive feedback. Unfortunately, this approach often has very limited impact. How can library leaders, managers and supervisors get beyond this and have feedback conversations that improve employee performance and drive real growth?

The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present “How to give effective feedback,” on Wednesday, April 15, at 1:30-3:00 pm CT. This webinar will present proven strategies for creating an environment for productive coaching conversations, discuss best practices on how to give and receive feedback, walk through scenarios of feedback gone wrong, and show how to repair relationships damaged by poorly executed feedback. We will draw examples from several library organization structures, ask participants to reflect on their experiences as both deliverers and recipients of feedback, and provide resources to improve future feedback conversations.

This webinar will address several of including: Communication skills, Collaboration and partnerships, Emotional intelligence, and Conflict resolution (personnel).

Participants will learn:

- Elements of an effective feedback conversation

- Barriers to a successful feedback conversation

- Warning signs of a feedback conversation that is not going well

- Strategies to create meaningful, precise, and constructive feedback

- How to identify and repair off-track feedback conversations, as well as when to pause and try again another time.
