YALSA seeks applicants for new Advocacy Board position

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) seeks an individual to fill a for a one-year term starting July 2020.

"By including advocates on the Board, YALSA is modeling the behavior it wants members to adopt at the local level in terms of reaching out into the community to forge partnerships that increase their ability to meet teen needs," said YALSA President Todd Krueger.

The ideal candidate has a passion for assisting teens to become successful and has experience with being an advocate for young adults. YALSA is seeking applicants who may advocate for teens in their profession, or as a volunteer, among other capacities. Employment in a library or YALSA membership is not required. This unique board position intent is to recruit a person with a perspective outside the library realm who intends to advocate for teens.

With the new position, YALSA hopes to bring in a distinctive perspective and help broaden the organization’s outlook on serving youth, as well as diversify its Board in hopes to strengthen its capacity by bringing in relevant skills or knowledge from beyond the library community.
