Paromita Biswas receives 2020 CRS First Step Award

CHICAGO—The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) congratulates Paromita Biswas, Continuing Resources Metadata Librarian at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), as the recipient of the 2020 First Step Award—a Wiley Professional Development Grant presented by the . The award will be presented on Saturday, June 27, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2020 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago, IL.

Biswas has been a member of 91´«Ã½ and ALCTS since completing her master’s in Library and Information Science degree in 2012. She is an active ALCTS member, serving on several awards juries and CaMMS committees over the past few years. Biswas’s background is in cataloging and metadata, and she began her professional focus in serials in 2018 upon accepting a position at UCLA as the Continuing Resources Metadata Librarian. Her colleagues speak highly of her immediate engagement with the complexities of serials cataloging, despite having limited prior experience with serials and CONSER work. She has contributed a significant number of CONSER level records since starting at UCLA. Biswas demonstrates a commitment to professional development as she has presented and published articles discussing archives, digital collections, ebook workflows, linked data environments, subject analysis and personnel management in technical services.
