CHICAGO – During the 91´«Ã½ Midwinter Meeting, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) approved the Mississippi Association of School Librarians (MsASL) as a chapter of AASL. AASL Chapters are the grassroots representation of AASL members that serve to bring matters occurring at the state and local level to the national-level attention of the AASL Board of Directors.

“The Mississippi Association of School Librarians is very excited to partner with AASL,” said President Angela Mullins. “As a state, we are diligently working to strengthen and support libraries in our schools. We are also focusing on promoting cooperation among school librarians and establishing a strong network to support them. We feel becoming a part of AASL will help with that work.”

“We are so excited to have Mississippi’s school librarians join AASL as a chapter,” said AASL President Mary Keeling. “Through this relationship, Mississippi school librarians will have access to greater support for grass-roots representation, professional development, and advocacy in the library ecosystem.”

With approval, MsASL becomes the 51st state or regional school library association to become a chapter of AASL.
