Kayla Kuni selected as 2020 SRRT Emerging Leader

CHICAGO - The is pleased to sponsor Kayla Kuni as the group's 2020 Emerging Leader. The sponsorship consists of a $1000 award towards attendance at the 91´«Ã½ Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia and 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference in Chicago. As SRRT's Emerging Leader, Kayla will attend 91´«Ã½ Midwinter to participate in a day-long leadership session with additional online training that will continue for six months. At the 91´«Ã½ 2020 Annual Conference in Chicago, Kayla and her team will present a poster session showcasing the results of their project.

Kayla Kuni is a librarian at Pasco-Hernando State College where she teaches Modularized Developmental Reading and Writing and helps future business owners discover resources to grow their small businesses. She was named the 2017 Outstanding Public Servant by the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce for her work within the community. Kayla received her MLIS from the University of South Florida and is currently pursuing a MBA.

Kayla is SRRT’s second sponsored Emerging Leader. The round table sponsored Nicola Andrews in 2019.

The 91´«Ã½ (SRRT) is a unit within the 91´«Ã½. It works to make 91´«Ã½ more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.
