January webinar offers introduction to civic technology

CHICAGO –The Public Library Association (PLA) is hosting a webinar in January which will provide a basic introduction to civic technology tools such as online maps, budgeting applications and open-data portals. PLA's webinar, , will take place Thursday, Jan. 16, from 1–2 p.m. Central Time.

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Confidently describe the concept of civic technology and cite three examples;
  • Identify resources available for local civic technologists in their library, their city/county government, and their communities; and
  • Demonstrate their use of a federal/state (or regional/local if available) data portal to find data about their community.

The cost is $43 for PLA personal members, $59 for nonmembers, and $129 for groups.* Registration will close at 4:30 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
