CHICAGO – Through a special election, the membership of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) voted to adopt new bylaws for the association. The adoption allows the association to move forward with structural changes to its leadership. The AASL Bylaws can be viewed on the AASL website at .
The bylaws reduce the size of the AASL Board of Directors from 19 elected members to 9. Elected positions include: President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President, Secretary/Treasurer, Division Councilor, Affiliate Assembly Representative, and three Directors-at-Large. The AASL Executive Director will served as a tenth, ex officio, member.
"The new board structure will streamline governance, improve decision-making, and result in deeper member engagement on the board," said Mary Keeling, AASL President. "The leadership development committee will be looking for a balance of leadership capabilities in potential candidates for officers and at-large board members, so that the board will be equipped to move AASL’s Strategic Plan forward."
