Zoë McLaughlin named 2020 ALCTS Emerging Leader

CHICAGO—Zoë McLaughlin, South and Southeast Asian Studies Librarian at the Michigan State University Libraries, has been selected as the ALCTS-sponsored Emerging Leader for 2019-2020. Each year, the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) sponsors one Emerging Leader who has chosen collections and technical services as a career and is a member of ALCTS.



In her current position, Zoë serves as the liaison librarian for South and Southeast Asia, collecting materials from and about the regions relevant to research and teaching at Michigan State University, and interfacing with students and faculty with regard to library resources. She provides in-depth reference and research services and library instruction for students, faculty, and staff with research interests in South or Southeast Asian studies. She contributes to accessibility initiatives and efforts within the libraries and on campus as a whole, including accessibility in physical and digital spaces. Zoë was elected to serve on the Center for Research Libraries’ Southeast Asia Materials Project’s Executive Committee.



Zoë is a member of 91´«Ã½, ACRL and the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association. She is currently serving on the Southeast Asia Materials Project’s Executive Committee and is on the Michigan State University President’s Advisory Committee on Disability Issues. Additionally, she is co-chair of the Michigan Academic Libraries Association’s Residency Interest group, and is a reviewer for Choice Reviews, Kirkus Reviews, and School Library Journal.



Zoë earned a B.A. in Biochemistry & Creative Writing from Oberlin College, and M.A. in Southeast Asian Studies and M.S. in Information from the University of Michigan.

The is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats. ALCTS is a division of the 91´«Ã½.
