PLA publishes space-planning guide for libraries

CHICAGO – Today, the Public Library Association (PLA) announced the release of a new publication intended to help library professionals to successfully analyze, plan and evaluate library spaces. Library patrons expect robust merchandising, easily accessible spaces and self-directed way-finding, and this new publication will help readers to understand these ideals and recreate them in their libraries. Library Space Planning: A PLA Guide was authored by branding expert David Vinjamuri, the president of and facilitator of PLA's Regional Workshop on Space Planning for Libraries.

Library Space Planning: A PLA Guide is available for purchase in print and eBook formats. The costs $21.00 for PLA members, $23.00 for 91´«Ã½ members, and $26.00 for nonmembers. The costs $19.95 for PLA members; $22.00 for 91´«Ã½ members; $24.00 for nonmembers.

Register by December 3 for workshop in Jacksonville, Fla.

Public library professionals looking for more in-depth training on space planning are encouraged to register for PLA's final regional training on this topic, Thursday, Dec. 12 in Jacksonville, Fla. Facilitated by David Vinjamuri, this interactive workshop uses lessons from retail stores to show participants how to make their libraries more accessible and understandable for patrons. The cost is $150 for PLA members, $185 for nonmembers, and $285 for groups of up to three individuals. Registration fees cover attendance for the full-day workshop, a copy of the PowerPoint presentation, assorted handouts, lunch, and a copy of Library Space Planning: A PLA Guide. Registration will close Tuesday, Dec. 3. .
