PLA announces regional workshops on space planning for libraries

CHICAGO – To increase local training opportunities for public library staff, the Public Library Association (PLA) is teaming up with Multnomah County (Ore.) Library, Palo Alto (Calif.) City Library and Jacksonville (Fla.) Public Library to offer regional workshops on space-planning for libraries. These full-day workshops, facilitated by New York University Professor David Vinjamuri, will teach attendees best practices for planning library spaces, how to critically assess the functionality of their spaces, and how to make their libraries more accessible and navigable. This program is intended for libraries that are planning for a renovation, building out a new space, looking to improve circulation, or endeavoring to enrich the use of their community spaces.
PLA's regional workshop, , will be offered at the following three dates and locations:
- Friday, Nov. 8: Mitchell Park Community Center, Palo Alto City Library, 3700 Middlefield Rd., Palo Alto, CA 94303
- Friday, Nov. 22: Central Library, Multnomah County Library, 801 SW 10th Ave., Portland, OR 97205
- Thurs., Dec. 12: Main Library, Jacksonville Public Library, 303 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202
Each workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a detailed schedule and agenda for the day will be shared in advance of the training.
The cost is $150 for PLA members, $185 for nonmembers, and $285 for groups of up to three individuals. Registration fees cover attendance for one full-day workshop, a copy of the PowerPoint presentation, assorted handouts, and lunch. Registration is limited to 100 participants per session.
