Upcoming webinar offers guidance on starting a WiFi hotspot lending program at the library

CHICAGO -- Last month, PLA a new project, supported by Microsoft Corp., called , which seeks to increase digital skills programming and access to technology in rural communities. Through $400,000 donated by Microsoft Philanthropies, PLA will provide hardware and digital skills training and resources to rural libraries, helping rural populations reap the benefits of broadband internet connectivity.
As part of the DigitalLead project, PLA will present a free webinar offering tools and resources to help public library staff start a WiFi hotspot lending program at their institutions. Participants will hear from two public library staff members who will share insights about their libraries’ processes, policies, challenges, and more. This webinar, , will be held 1-2 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday, July 30. The webinar is free, but registration is required and space is limited.
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the need for increasing access to broadband connectivity to achieve better community learning and health outcomes;
- Take advantage of free resources and tools to assist libraries in developing their own hotspot lending program; and
- Explore strategies for building partnerships to increase awareness of and to sustain their hotspot lending program.
