Kelli J. Hayes Selected as 2019 Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship Recipient

The 91´«Ã½ and SAGE announced Kelli J. Hayes of Fair Lawn, New Jersey as the recipient of the 2019 Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media.
Hayes hopes to become “an active participant in the curation and organization of both traditional informational formats as well as more contemporary digital formats.” She says she wants to “be a contributor to initiatives designed to organize new media for public betterment and consumption.”
One reference said, “Ms. Hayes is a brilliant student with an abiding love of libraries. She has demonstrated a love of learning and a curiosity for problem-solving that is invaluable in the library field. She is also friendly and professional with her colleagues. She has all of the required skills and motivations to be a truly great librarian.” Another reference stated that “Ms. Hayes has tremendous academic talent, creativity, and promise. She is simply outstanding.” Yet another reference commented that “Hayes is a creative thinker with fine-tuned analytical skills. She has definite leadership skills. She is eager to engage in discussion. She is diplomatic, resourceful, and thoughtful. She cares about people and is interested in how society might find better solutions for people. She has both the heart and the mind of an extraordinary person.”
Hayes will be attending Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
The Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media was created in memory of Peter Lyman, former university librarian and professor emeritus of the School of information at the University of California, Berkeley. Lyman’s research focused on online information, ethnographic analyses of online social relationships and communities, and bringing university librarians into the digital era. He was one of the first scholars to work with computer companies to design information technology appropriate for research and teaching.
