CHICAGO — The life of a library worker can be stressful, with demanding professional and personal schedules that can invite poor health. During the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Annual Conference and Exhibition, 91´«Ã½ President Loida Garcia-Febo will lead a cooking demo from 10 – 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, June 22, at the Cooking Stage on the Exhibits Floor.

Looking for a quick snack or dinner on the go? Garcia-Febo will show how fast food doesn’t have to be unhealthy by sharing simple but nutritious recipes that range from simple drinks to a quick-and-easy shrimp stir-fry. Attendees will receive recipes, samples and tips on how to lead a healthy lifestyle.



“Wellness is a lifelong journey, involving a balance among many priorities,” said Gacia-Febo. “I am excited to have this opportunity to empower library professionals who give so much of themselves to pay attention to their own needs. This event will highlight healthy food alternatives for the library worker on the go, as well as support efforts to transform lives through education and lifelong learning.”

The cooking demonstration supports Garcia-Febo’s commitment to workplace wellness and efforts to generate awareness of healthy choices that lead to happier, healthier and more fulfilled lives. The session is one of many being offered during the 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference and Exhibition.



Garcia-Febo and members of the 91´«Ã½-APA Workplace Wellness Advisory Committee relaunched the 91´«Ã½-APA’s Workplace Wellness website in June of 2018. The site includes health resources that benefit library workers in all types of working environments. The website reboot is part of Garcia-Febo’s commitment to support staff wellness and is made possible by the 91´«Ã½-APA Workplace Wellness Advisory Committee.

The Workplace Wellness Advisory Committee consists of 91´«Ã½ Past President Dr. Loriene Roy, Lydia Willoughby, Uta Hussong-Christian and University of Texas School of Information graduate student Ms. Leslie Flynn, who developed the updated website content and reorganized the site as part of an independent studies project. Other notable contributors include 2016 91´«Ã½ Emerging Leaders cohorts such as Amanda Avery, Dory Cochran and Jennifer McElroy.
