Carroll elected 2020-2021 AASL president

CHICAGO – Kathy Carroll, lead school librarian for the Westwood High School Library Information Center in Columbia, South Carolina, has been elected as the 2020-2021 President of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). Carroll will serve as president-elect during 2019-2020 under AASL President Mary Keeling.
Upon learning of her election, Carroll stated: "I am deeply honored to be entrusted to lead AASL at this pivotal moment in our profession. We are having conversations and implementing policies that will impact our profession for years to come. I look forward to working closely with our elected board to continue this process and to make plans for our future. I also look forward to working with our members, whose contributions to our field and commitment to our students and best practices are inspiring. Together, we will continue to expand and strengthen our role as innovators and leaders in teaching and learning for all students."
Carroll is currently serving as an 91´«Ã½ Councilor-at-Large and as a member of the 91´«Ã½ Spectrum Advisory Committee. She is a member of the 91´«Ã½ Black Caucus and the International Relations, Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange, and the Sustainability Round Tables. She also volunteers as a site visit team member for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.
Carroll is a past member of the AASL Board of Directors, serving as the Regional Director-Elect and Director for Region 4. She also served on the AASL Presidential Initiative Task Force for AASL President Steven Yates. At the state level, Carroll was an executive board member for the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) and served as the chairperson of the association’s standards and guidelines committee.
