91´«Ã½ CopyTalk webinar with Ty Turley Trejo to focus on film copyright and librariesÂ
91´«Ã½
Time:
Thursday, April 4, 2:00 PM (Eastern) / 11:00 AM (Pacific)
What:
Section 110(1) of the Copyright Act is often referred to as the "classroom exception" and generally allows for the public showing of films in "place[s] devoted to instruction," provided certain conditions are met. Does this exception apply to libraries? If so, what are reasonable parameters libraries should follow to ensure film showings don't infringe movie studios' public performance rights? With the ever-growing popularity of library film series, as well as educational considerations of using film for instructional purposes, an understanding of this exception is critical. This webinar will explore reliance on this important exception for libraries.
Who:
Ty Turley Trejo was formerly the Assistant Director of Licensing for the Copyright Licensing Office at Brigham Young University. He was primarily responsible for managing and assuring effective license practices of copyrighted materials across campus. Before working at BYU, Trejo was the founder and CEO of a successful copyright clearance company that specialized in film/television, internet and live performance.
