91´«Ã½ Supports Restoration of Strong Open Internet Protections
91´«Ã½
Democratic leaders of the House and Senate today announced legislation that will reverse the disastrous repeal by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in late 2017 of critical net neutrality protections. The FCC’s action eliminated rules that required internet service providers to treat all internet traffic equally. The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) released the following statement by 91´«Ã½ President Loida Garcia-Febo:
“A free and open internet is critical for equitable access to online information and resources for the nearly 120,000 libraries 91´«Ã½ represents and the communities we serve across America. And, according to a recent Program for Public Consultation at the University of Maryland poll, an overwhelming majority of people in this country — 86 percent — support strong, enforceable net neutrality rules that protect our lawful internet traffic against blocking, throttling and other interference. That’s why we continue to work on this important issue and appreciate the efforts of lawmakers today to restore net neutrality protections.”
