CHICAGO—The of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) has selected Siôn Romaine, Director, Acquisitions & Rapid Cataloging Services at the University of Washington Libraries, to receive the 2019 HARRASSOWITZ Leadership in Library Acquisitions Award. The award will be presented on June 22 at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2019 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Annual Conference & Exhibition in Washington, D.C.

The award, sponsored annually by and named in honor of Dr. Knut Dorn, longtime senior managing partner at HARRASSOWITZ, is given to a librarian in recognition of outstanding leadership and other contributions in the field of acquisitions. The award includes a $1,500 monetary award and a citation.

Romaine has distinguished himself in the areas of library acquisitions, cataloging and serials management. He has held increasingly responsible positions at the University of British Columbia and the University of Washington, where he is currently the Director of Acquisitions and Rapid Cataloging Services. During his tenure at the University of Washington, Romaine played a key role as coordinator of the successful Orbis-Cascade Alliance ILS system migration. As the acquisitions expert, he provided training and developed policies and standards at both the UW and the Alliance.

Throughout his career, Romaine has been active in professional service work both regionally and nationally. He has been a strong contributor in the acquisitions and serials fields, having served in leadership roles in several important organizations including ALCTS, NISO and the PAPR Advisory Council, as well as coordinating enhancements for ELUNA Alma Product Working groups. Additional contributions to research and education are evidenced by numerous presentations at conferences including ER&L, 91´«Ã½ Midwinter and the Charleston Conference, and in 2017, he published a book chapter on migrating acquisitions data. His knowledge, willingness to help others and leadership abilities have garnered him a reputation for being a dependable and dedicated member of the acquisitions community.
