First Step Award to Ilda M. Cardenas

CHICAGO—The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) congratulates Ilda M. Cardenas, electronic resources and acquisitions librarian at the Mississippi State University Libraries, as the recipient of the 2019 First Step Award—a Wiley Professional Development Grant presented by the . The award will be presented on Saturday, June 22, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2019 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Annual Conference & Exhibition in Washington, D.C.

Cardenas graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history of Mexico from University of California, Berkeley, and earned her Master of Library and Information Science degree from San Jose State University. Cardenas has held the position of electronic resources and acquisitions librarian at Mississippi State University since July 2018. Prior to this position, she has served as a monographic cataloguer at Mississippi State University, a part-time reference librarian at El Camino College, and a copy cataloguer at Cerritos College Library. In her current position, Cardenas’s primary responsibility is managing electronic resources throughout their life cycle, including acquisitions, troubleshooting access and assessment. Cardenas is a member of 91´«Ã½ and ALCTS. She has attended many classes, webinars and workshops for professional development purposes. The award jury is confident that her receipt of the 2019 First Step Award will help further her career goals and strengthen her involvement with ALCTS and CRS.
