CHICAGO—The Board of Directors of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) has appointed Stephen Hearn, Metadata Strategist at the University of Minnesota Libraries, as 91´«Ã½ representative to the North American RDA Committee (NARDAC). He will serve a three-year term as the 91´«Ã½ representative beginning in January 2019, with eligibility for a single three-year re-appointment upon approval.

In his current position, Stephen is responsible for advising and assisting in the development and implementation of metadata formats and standards for the University Libraries. He has a stellar professional service record in Cataloging & Metadata Management Section (CaMMS), ALCTS, the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC), and other organizations, and is currently a member of the PCC Standing Committee on Standards where he has made substantial contributions to the CC:DA 3R Task Force. Stephen has published extensively in the areas of metadata, RDA, authority control, subject analysis, and controlled vocabularies, and has presented on these topics at conferences and workshops. Stephen's knowledge of metadata standards and formats will make him a very valuable addition to NARDAC, especially as linked data environments take on a more prominent role

NARDAC is the entity responsible for representing the North American region on the RDA Steering Committee (RSC). NARDAC’s membership comes from the following North American communities that have implemented RDA: the 91´«Ã½, the Canadian Committee on Cataloguing, and the Library of Congress.

The is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats. ALCTS is a division of the 91´«Ã½.
