CHICAGO — Submissions are open for the 2019 EBSCO Midwinter Meeting Scholarship. EBSCO provides up to $1,500 to defray the costs of travel and other expenses to the 91´«Ã½’s Midwinter Meeting being held in Seattle, Jan. 24-29.
The five scholarships will be awarded to librarians responding to the following essay question:
While considering some of the challenges libraries are undergoing (e.g. budgeting and staffing cuts, an "everything is available online" mentality, and efforts to redefine and explain the value of libraries to patrons, students, and/or faculty and administrators) explain how you plan to make your mark on your profession, define what you see as the key issues impacting the future of libraries, and highlight your approach to solving them?
An 91´«Ã½-designated jury selects the winners based on their 250-word responses. Winners, jury members and 91´«Ã½ representatives are invited to a Scholarship Winners Breakfast that EBSCO hosts during the conference.
Julius C. Jefferson Jr, past EBSCO jury chair and 91´«Ã½ Presidential Candidate notes that, “EBSCO has been a great partner and supporter of one of 91´«Ã½’s strategic objectives: encouraging professional development. The scholarship will provide selected 91´«Ã½ members the funds necessary to further that objective allowing member to strengthen their professional skill sets through both content and networking opportunities. In a time of tight budgets and competing priorities, the EBSCO scholarship will provide those selected recipients opportunities to experience one of the most exciting and engaging library conferences for sharing ideas and best practices in the world”
The scholarships are given annually to allow more librarians access to the professional development and networking opportunities that the conference offers.
Submissions are due Nov. 6, 2018. Information about how to submit essays is available at: .
