Hlywak appointed director of 91´«Ã½ Communications and Marketing

CHICAGO — Stephanie M. Hlywak has been named 91´«Ã½’s new director of Communications and Marketing, effective Oct. 1, 2018. She comes to 91´«Ã½ from the Muscular Dystrophy Association, where she served as national director of content marketing. In that role, she built the content marketing program from the ground up, including strategies, metrics, workflows and goals, for social media, email and blog content. She also developed MDA Amplify, a one-click app to enable staff, supporters and partner organizations to use their own social channels to amplify MDA’s messages.
Prior to joining MDA, Hlywak was account supervisor at Kathy Schaeffer and Associates, an issues-oriented communications agency. In that role, she led media training and strategy sessions, planned grassroots outreach campaigns, and implemented media relations plans. Other previous positions include media director at the Poetry Foundation and senior promotions manager at the University of Chicago Press. From 2008-2016, she also taught composition courses in the Department of Communications at Truman College. She currently teaches an online course on Social Media Marketing at the New School in New York.
Hlywak has a Master of Arts in Humanities from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University.
At 91´«Ã½, Hlywak will lead 91´«Ã½ Communications and Marketing, a reorganized unit of 91´«Ã½ bringing together the Public Awareness Office – including press relations, social media and public information – with an increased focus on marketing. She will join 91´«Ã½’s management team, with the intent of strengthening consistent internal and external communications across the association.
