The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) has selected Theresa M. Boulrice of Springfield, Massachusetts as the recipient of the 2018 Tony B. Leisner Scholarship.
The $3,000 scholarship, named for an active 91´«Ã½ member and former member of the 91´«Ã½ Council, is awarded to a library support staff member pursuing a master’s degree in library and information studies. The scholarship was established with funds donated by Leisner.
Boulrice stated that she “discovered that her passion for children’s literature and love for learning could be used to help youth in her community while working as a circulation clerk at the East Forest Park Library in Springfield, Massachusetts.” Her hope is to “become a youth services librarian who will make a difference in a young person’s life as she helps them explore and discover their own individual interests.”
For the past three years, Boulrice has facilitated a young adult comic book group for artists where she creates activities to help develop and challenge young people’s skills while providing access to a variety of resources such as digital drawing pads and visiting artists.
One reference said, “She stands out as an exceptionally motivated and well-focused person. She is creative, an enthusiastic team player, and provides great customer service to the public. She is very passionate about engaging youth and their families. She goes above and beyond her required responsibilities. Kids and teens are often excited to see her when they come into the library.”
Another reference stated that, “She is well-read, very articulate and eager to learn and succeed. She is excellent at leading programs at the library and is more than proficient at representing the library when doing community outreach at local neighborhood fairs and schools. Our library users look forward to interacting with her.”
Currently, Boulrice works as a senior clerk at the Springfield (MA) City Library. She plans to attend Simmons College in Boston.
