The (LearnRT) of the 91´«Ã½ is pleased to announce Sara White, Youth Services Senior Librarian at the Seminole County Public Library, as the recipient of the 2018 – 2019 Pat Carterette Professional Development Grant.
Ms. White will use the grant to attend the Power Up conference in March 2019. This is “a conference in leadership for youth services managers and staff.” Ms. White has been interested in this conference since she learned about it as an 91´«Ã½ Emerging Leader, where she was exploring “the intersection between youth librarianship and leadership.” As stated by Ms. White: “My entire job is to be a leader of library youth services, so the chance to attend a training where my responsibilities, challenges, and potential are addressed so specifically would be a dream come true.”
Ms. White is committed to continual learning. Among other things, she has participated in the Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute, obtained two post-MLIS certificates, participated in the 91´«Ã½ Emerging Leaders program, and is a reviewer for School Library Journal.
The grant committee was especially impressed with Ms. White’s specific and detailed plan to share her knowledge with her library, professional community, and LearnRT. The $1,000 grant will be made available for Ms. White’s use between September 1, 2018 and August 31, 2019. Additional parts of the award include a one-year paid membership to LearnRT and the appointment of a LearnRT member-mentor for the year. Crystal Schimpf, past-President of LearnRT and founder of Kixal, will serve in that role.
This grant, established in memory of Pat Carterette, past-President of LearnRT, is designated to honor her passion for professional development in the field of library and information sciences. Pat’s legacy is focused on providing outstanding educational opportunities for her colleagues to grow and develop within their career field. Funding for the grant comes from preconference events and sponsorship of the LearnRT Training Showcase.
Applications for the 2019 – 2020 grant will open in the fall of 2018 and will be announced on the 91´«Ã½ site. The deadline to apply will be February 15, 2019.
The 91´«Ã½ serves as the liaison to the LearnRT.
