91´«Ã½

Jennifer Chan has been selected to receive LITA’s first scholarship to attend the .

Chan is the Scholarly Communication Librarian at the UCLA Library. Her work focuses on altmetrics and bibliometrics, open access, the Affordable Course Materials Initiative, and research impact. She liaises with campus partners on the development of targeted outreach and programming that promote scholarly communication and develops open education strategies to further the campus mission of research, teaching, and public service.

When notified she had been selected, Chan said, “My experience working in a ‘Katrina Trailer’ in a public library system that lost several libraries to Hurricane Katrina underscored for me the importance of access and library reliance upon technological infrastructure. I have been a proud member of the Library and Information Technology Association since the start of my career in academic libraries. Recognizing the continually evolving role of information technology within our profession, I've found great value in my membership, and in the relationships with colleagues formed through LITA. I am so honored and grateful to receive this participation scholarship from LITA to attend the 2018 91´«Ã½ Leadership Institute, and look forward to taking the skills I acquire to further contribute to our profession and to my goal of better connecting us all.”

The 91´«Ã½ Leadership Institute is designed to help future library leaders develop and practice their leadership skills in areas critical to the future of the libraries they lead. Through reflective and active learning, it offers participants an opportunity to delve into leadership practices, concepts, and frameworks, and to shape their own sustainable leadership vision and ethos, at the same time as building a learning community and network.

The first scholarship of its type, this opportunity was funded by LITA members who responded generously to our 2017 fundraising campaign.
