2018 Teen Read Weekâ„¢ Grant recipients announced

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½), has announced the recipients of its 2018 Activity Grant.
The grant was generously funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and was awarded to ten libraries to help fund their literacy-focused Teen Read Week activities, which will help support innovative reading or literacies programs for and with the teens in their community. Each grant is worth $1,000.
The recipients of the grant are as follows:
- Carpenter, Terri. Vineland (New Jersey) Public Library
- Elder, Zachary. Pearl Bailey Library, Newport News (Virginia) Public Libraries
- Garcia, Brittany. Rancho Cucamonga (California) Public Library
- Hutchenson, Bailee. Bolivar-Hardeman (Tennessee) County Library
- Kleiman, Allan. Montville (New Jersey) Township Public Library
- Lewis, Cicely. Meadowcreek High School Library; Norcross, GA
- Lynda, Martin. Clarksburg-Harrison (West Virginia) Public Library
- McCallister, Kimberly. Liberty Middle School; Beaverdam, WI
- Powell, Jennifer. Tarrant (Alabama) High School
- Wallace, April. Pelham (Alabama) Park Middle School

™ is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It began in 1998 and is held annually in October, the same week as Columbus Day. For years, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has provided Youth Literacy Grants to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations in hopes to provide assistance in implementing and expanding literacy programs for youth.
