St. Charles Public Library selected for ASCLA’s Exceptional Service Award

CHICAGO – St. Charles Public Library, Outreach Services Department, has been selected for the 2018 administered by the

The St. Charles Public Library, Outreach Services Department models replicable components for successful outreach to nontraditional library users. Through engagement, social interaction, good collaboration, community awareness and community partnerships, the Outreach Services Department has taken traditional library services and expanded it to a hospital, a local homeless shelter, Meals on Wheels, and senior facilities; established eight new community book exchanges, increased services to patrons with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia: and launch programming at facilities.

The Outreach Services team (consisting of David Kelsey, Dana Hintz, Lynda Spraner, and Christine Steck) continually develop new and innovative ways to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals who cannot visit the Library in person. Due to their dedicated staff, Outreach Services has grown from serving 79 patrons in April 2015, to currently serving over 250 patrons each month, a 316% increase.
