New Dawn for Libraries: A Conversation with Dr. Carla Hayden

CHICAGO—RUSA President, Chris LeBeau invites all 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference attendees to attend the Reference and User Services Association's (RUSA) President’s Program, “” on Saturday, June 23, 4 – 5:30 PM in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Dr. Carla Hayden, the first woman and the first African-American Librarian of Congress, is an avid proponent of proactive public services that support discovery and enrich communities. In her new role, she seeks to make the Library’s collections and stories come alive for all Americans regardless of their proximity to the nation’s capital. Former 91´«Ã½ President Courtney Young will engage Dr. Hayden in a wide-ranging conversation about forging roles for library services in meeting the needs of today’s varied and diverse populations.

“It is both a thrill and a great honor to have Dr. Carla Hayden as the guest speaker for the RUSA President’s Program this year,” exclaimed LeBeau. “Dr. Hayden has revitalized the Library of Congress and the library landscape. She has been incredibly accessible and generous with her time in her role as Librarian of Congress. I speak on behalf of the President’s Program Committee in saying we look forward to a wonderful conversation with her in which we will touch on a number of topics of interest to many.”

The President will also be presenting RUSA’s division level achievement awards to: Eleanor Mitchell and Sarah Watstein, winners of the , sponsored by Credo; Kaite Stover, winner of the , sponsored by NoveList; The State Historical Society of Iowa, winner of the , sponsored by the Department for Professional Employees, AFL-CIO; and Toledo Lucas County Public Library, winner of the , sponsored by ReferenceUSA.
