Final Reminder: Polls close April 4 in 2018 PLA Election

CHICAGO -- Time is running out for Public Library Association (PLA) members to cast their ballots in the association's . The polls will close at 11:59 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday, April 4.

This year, six nominees will stand for three positions on the : PLA President and two Director-at-Large seats. These are crucial leadership roles that will guide PLA into the next several years, ensuring the organization delivers on its core purpose to strengthen public libraries and their contribution to the communities they serve.

Members will also have the opportunity to vote on two 91´«Ã½ ballot measures: the first a proposed adjustment to 91´«Ã½ membership dues and the second related to the educational requirements for the next 91´«Ã½ executive director. On the latter ballot measure, the PLA Board of Directors—in alignment with ten of the eleven divisions, the 91´«Ã½ Board, 91´«Ã½ Council, and the Search Committee—is encouraging its members to vote “no." PLA has also released a statement against the current 91´«Ã½ ballot measure, and in favor of retaining "MLIS preferred" status for the next 91´«Ã½ executive director. To be eligible to vote, individuals must be members in good standing of 91´«Ã½ as well as applicable divisions and round tables as of January 31, 2018. Eligible voters should have received their voting credentials by email between March 12 and March 14. Any individuals whose emails bounce will be sent a “snail-mail” letter with their voting credentials.

The 91´«Ã½ Election Committee will meet at the 91´«Ã½ headquarters on April 11 to certify the election. Election results will be released following that meeting.
