Public and health sciences librarians to gather in May for collaborative symposium

Stipends available to cover public library workers’ attendance costs
CHICAGO – The Public Library Association (PLA) is inviting public library workers to participate in an exclusive learning and networking opportunity focused on quality public health information, health information competencies, trends in health disparities, and related topics. PLA is partnering with the Medical Library Association (MLA) and the Greater Midwest Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM GMR) to present a , taking place May 22-23 at the MLA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Atlanta.
Developed for public and health sciences library professionals, the Symposium will highlight the latest strategies and trends in public health information, the influences affecting the need for public health information, and resources for effectively locating and using health information. It will also provide a rare opportunity for public and health sciences librarians to work collaboratively on consumer health information programming. Space is limited to a maximum of 150 public library workers, and registration in advance of the April 18 deadline is encouraged.
Employees of U.S.-based public libraries with responsibility or interest in consumer health information and health literacy may qualify to receive free registration for the Symposium. of up to $500 to cover travel and lodging expenses, provided by NNLM, are also available. to apply.
