First Step Award to Natascha Owens

CHICAGO—The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) congratulates Natascha Owens, serials cataloger at the University of Chicago Library, as the recipient of the 2018 First Step Award – a Wiley Professional Development Grant presented by the . The award will be presented on Saturday, June 23, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2018 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Annual Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans, La.

Owens graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in urban studies from Rutgers University Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, and earned her Master of Library and Information Science degree from Rutgers University School of Communication, Information and Library Science. Owens has held the position of serials cataloger at the University of Chicago since October 2014. Prior to this position, she has served as a receiving and rapid cataloging supervisor at the University of Chicago, a cataloging assistant at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz law firm, and the acting coordinator for the Federal Depository Program and Public Service and Periodical & Microfilm Reading Room manager at Rutgers University Alexander Library. In her current position, Owens’ primary responsibility is creating original CONSER-level cataloging for serials materials in all formats in various languages. Owens is a member of 91´«Ã½, ALCTS, ALCTS-CRS, ALCTS-CMMS, ACRL-TSIG and NASIG. She has attended many classes, webinars and workshops for professional development purposes. The award jury is confident that her receipt of the 2018 First Step Award will help further her career goals and strengthen her involvement with ALCTS and CRS.
