AASL Launches Affiliate of the Year Award

CHICAGO – At the 2018 91´«Ã½ Midwinter Meeting in Denver, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) announced the launch of its new Affiliate of the Year Award. The award recognizes the AASL Affiliate organization most active and dynamic in achieving the goals of AASL at the state and local level. This recognition encourages AASL Affiliates to provide their members community, educational growth, legislative activities and increased involvement at the local, state and national levels.
“The creation of this award marks the fulfillment of one of the goals in our current strategic plan,” explains AASL President Steven Yates. “Our Affiliate Assembly is a unique body among 91´«Ã½, and this new award allows us to highlight the incredible work our tireless affiliates are doing to transform teaching and learning across the country. With all the wonderful things being accomplished as our affiliates work to implement our new National School Library Standards, the AASL board felt this would be the perfect time to start another lasting tradition of recognizing exemplary work for the school library profession.”
To be eligible, the applicant must be a current in good standing for a minimum of two years. Other considerations include legislative involvement, AASL event involvement and promotion, and the availability of communication channels and professional development offered via the affiliate.
