Public libraries sought for PLA/DC Public Library digital archiving project

CHICAGO -- The Public Library Association (PLA) and DC Public Library are seeking applications from public libraries interested in establishing robust digital preservation/archiving programs. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded DCPL, in partnership with PLA, a (LG-95-17-0079-17) to build Memory Lab digital preservation programs in select libraries across the U.S.

Through an online application process, seven public libraries will be selected to join the . These libraries will receive training, mentoring, and financial support to create their own Memory Lab programs. They will establish digitization stations and curriculum to build public knowledge and skills around the complex and paralyzing problems of personal digital archiving.

All public libraries, , are eligible. Libraries must submit a statement of interest and identify project leads who will build the local Memory Lab digitization stations and programs, attend in-person and virtual trainings, and contribute to project documentation. for more information and to begin your application. The application will remain open until Friday, Dec. 15, 2017.
