New workshop: Developing Effective Community Partnerships

CHICAGO—91´«Ã½ Publishing eLearning Solutions announces an exciting new workshop, with Paul Signorelli and Andrew Sanderbeck. This workshop will last 90 minutes and take place at 2:30pm Eastern/1:30 Central/12:30 Mountain/11:30am Pacific on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017.
Libraries serve their communities above all else, and it’s crucial that librarians work not only with people in the community, but also with institutions and businesses. Building positive and productive relationships with these organizations can be a challenge, but they can be tremendously beneficial to the library. They can lead to everything from content to marketing to funding as they further cement the library’s status as an indispensible member of the community.
In this new workshop, Paul Signorelli and Andrew Sanderback draw on their extensive experience building relationships between libraries and community partners to show you how to overcome the initial challenges and avoid the common pitfalls that hold many people back. Conversations with potential partners can begin informally over a cup of coffee, in community meetings, and in gatherings where representatives of various community groups simply listen to each other to identify the shared challenges they can address. They then can blossom into unexpectedly rewarding results for everyone involved.
After participating in this workshop, you will:
- Understand three methods used to develop successful partnerships that you can implement
- Learn how to set the scope of a potential partnership and clearly define the needs of your library and community
- Have a working knowledge of several real-world examples that you can draw upon as you initiate your own community partnerships
- Identify at least two concrete steps that you can take within a month that will nurture engagement and collaboration and address specific community needs
About the Instructors
Paul Signorelli, co-author of Workplace Learning & Leadership with Lori Reed, served as director of staff training for the San Francisco Public Library system before becoming an independent writer, trainer, instructional designer, presenter, and consultant. Much of his work involves fostering community and collaboration face-to-face and online through libraries, other learning organizations, and large-scale community-based projects, including San Francisco’s Hidden Garden Steps project, which has its origins in a conversation that took place within a local branch library. He remains active on New Media Consortium Horizon Report advisory boards/expert panels, in the Association for Talent Development, and with the 91´«Ã½. He weaves marketing and public relations efforts into the strategic planning process and remains a firm advocate of developing sustainable community partnerships that meet all partners’ needs.
Andrew Sanderbeck is an expert presenter, coach, and consultant for libraries and library organizations. His favorite topics include customer service and retention, effective communication, and management and leadership skills. He has presented at 91´«Ã½, PLA, and at many state and regional library conferences, as well as international conferences in the United Arab Emirates and many European Countries. Sanderbeck is the founder of PCI Webinars, a webinar company that produces 100 programs each year for library organizations. He is the author of The Power of Asking for What You Want and The ABCs of Positive Living.
