Meece wins stipend to attend YALSA’s 2017 YA Services Symposium

CHICAGO — Ashley Meece, a Teen Services librarian at Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, has won the 2017 Young Adult Services Symposium worker stipend from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). The stipend will provide Meece with up to $1,000 to offset travel expenses to attend the 2017 symposium, which will be held Nov. 3–5 in Louisville, KY.
"As a young teen librarian, I’ve found the resources provided by YALSA to be invaluable.” Meece, wrote in her application. “I regularly refer to various YALSA guidelines and attend nearly every webinar of the month. As I approach a year as a dedicated teen librarian, I find that there is always more to learn in regard to serving the teens of my community with engaging programming, materials that encourage reading and learning, high quality reference service, and so much more.”
Meece’s supervisor, Trinity Lescallett, talked about Meece’s commitment to young adult services. “Ashley has a solid understanding of the issues facing teens today, and she is there to support them and educate other library staff to better serve teen patrons.” Additionally, her supervisor added, “Ashley is just starting out in her career, but is active in listservs and Facebook groups, and she is a member of the Ohio Library Council, YALSA and 91´«Ã½.”
