The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) has selected Christina Wampler of Fayetteville, Arkansas as the 2017 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship recipient.
The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to a library support staff worker who is pursuing a master’s degree in library and information science.
Wampler stated that her experience working in a library began with a Page position responsible for the fundamental tasks of creating book trucks and shelving library materials. Since that first job five years ago, she has continued to work in libraries. Currently, Wampler works as a Lending Specialist at the University of Arkansas Libraries. She says that her love for library work has increased, leading to her decision to obtain a master's degree in library science. Wampler stated that she wants to “continue learning about this field I love and to eventually become a professional librarian. Ultimately, I want my career to reflect how much I believe in the mission of libraries and librarians.”
One reference for Wampler said that she is “hard working, diligent, and meticulous. Her understanding of library procedures and her attention to detail is excellent. She is such an attribute to our department. She consistently goes above and beyond to provide excellent service to our local patrons as well as other libraries. She is a large part why our department is so successful with one of the best turn-around-times for Interlibrary Loan requests in the country.”
Another reference stated that Wampler is “dedicated to her work, and displays a quiet leadership, instructing people one-on-one and demonstrating professionalism by example. She is a rare person who understands how resource sharing fits into the overall concept of library services and knows that we must work well with other departments in order for our resource sharing activities to be successful. In other words, she gets it.”
Yet another reference stated that Wampler’s “quality of work and outstanding time management skills helps her to always deliver work results in a timely fashion. If her performance in our library is a good indication of her future performance, she will be an extremely valuable asset to any organization.”
Wampler attends the University of North Texas (Denton, TX).
