Broghan McVicar Sagers Selected as the 2017 91´«Ã½ Century Scholarship Recipient

91´«Ã½

CHICAGO - The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) has selected Broghan McVicar Sagers of Williamsburg, Michigan as the 2017 Century Scholarship recipient.

The $2,500 scholarship funds services or accommodation for a library school student with disabilities admitted to an 91´«Ã½-accredited library program.

In reflecting on her career path, Sagers stated, “My journey to this point has not been easy. The best and hardest thing I have ever done for myself is return to school. If I had not done that, I would not have the opportunity to become a library science and information professional.”

Currently, Sagers works as a Program Coordinator and Professional Development Specialist for Michigan Makers. In this role, she focuses on encouraging design thinking (the ability to identify a problem, do research, design prototypes, and communicate their process), implementing programs in schools, and professional development. Sagers said, “For some inexplicable reason, I am continually drawn back to working with children. The library is a special third space where both formal and informal learning provide children with the tools they need to take charge of their education and pursue their goals. If I had one goal, it would be to create this type of space in my future library and always demonstrate how fun it is to learn. A community of empowered and lifelong learners can start in a library; it would be amazing to be a part of that process.”

One reference commented that Sagers is “Enthusiastic about learning new things. I have found her to be very impressive, intelligent, thoughtful, friendly and well-liked by others. She is well-prepared, eager to please and fun to be around. She manages challenges with ease, good grace, and energy for the day ahead and the professional life to come. No reservations about her!

Another reference commented that, “Brogan Sagers is very intelligent, dedicated, motivated, extremely well-educated, insightful, and hard-working. She's a natural leader, and among the very best students I have had the pleasure of teaching (in 21 years at the University of Michigan). I have no doubt that any employer or academic program lucky enough to land Broghan will consider her a tremendous asset and credit to their institution. I have great confidence Broghan Sagers will succeed.

Sagers attends the University of Michigan.
