CHICAGO – Tegan Anclade, a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has won the 2017 Young Adult Services Symposium student stipend from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). The stipend will provide Anclade with up to $1,000 to offset travel expenses to attend the 2017 symposium, which will be held Nov. 3-5 in Louisville, KY.

“Often times, kids that come in to the library might not have someone that they are comfortable talking with, by being available and open, a teen in need can get assistance.” Anclade wrote in her application. “It is also important that while instilling a love for libraries and education, that you still have fun.”

Debra Mitts Smith, an Adjunct Faculty member at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, recommended Anclade for the stipend. In her supporting statement she wrote, “Ms. Anclade is an excellent student. Her contributions to class discussion provide insights not only on the materials under discussion but also on young adults.”
