The 55 million Hispanics and Latinos in the U.S. constitute 17% of the total U.S. population. Is your library doing everything it can to reach Spanish-speaking patrons? Being aware of your community’s demographics is the first step to ensure you’re accurately marketing your services and building effective programs for your community. In this workshop, international librarian and consultant Loida Garcia-Febo will teach you how to identify demographics for your community and use that data to build a customized plan to serve your Spanish-speaking patrons. You’ll gain tips on how to develop collections, programs and services to serve these populations. Garcia-Febo will share models from libraries in the U.S. and other countries in the Latin American region.

- identify demographics for the communities you serve
- develop a customized library profile framework
- build a customized basic plan to serve your Spanish-speaking patrons
- build effective library programs and services reflecting the communities you serve
About the Instructor
Loida Garcia-Febo is an international librarian, educator, and consultant of topics such as human rights, advocacy and services to multicultural populations. She is president of Information New Wave, an international non-profit seeking to enhance the education of ethnically diverse communities. Garcia-Febo collaborates with libraries and organizations to help diverse populations worldwide. She has taught in 20 countries and has spoken at United Nations’ events and others coordinated by the US Embassy in Spain, Mexico and Tokyo. She is a member of the Governing Board of IFLA and serves on the Executive Board of the 91´«Ã½. She was born and educated in Puerto Rico.
