Artist Shepard Fairey chooses 91´«Ã½ for fundraiser

CHICAGO – Artist Shepard Fairey has chosen the 91´«Ã½ for a fundraiser released on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, in connection with Echo, an accessories and design manufacturing company.

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the company created the Echo 100, picking 100 creators, including Fairey, to design scarves and donate $100 from each scarf sold to a charity of their choice.

In selecting the 91´«Ã½, Fairey said: “I chose this charity because, as a nation, the only way to combat the disinformation cycle is to stay educated, stay alert, and read as much information as possible. Removing and censoring critical pieces of literature and history only leads to authoritarianism. I chose this charity to help protect democracy and freedom.”

Each of the 100 creators has designed a 35-inch silk square scarf. Each scarf is printed in a limited, numbered edition of 100 and will be sold on the website. To extend the “100” theme, Echo is donating $100 from each scarf sale to a nonprofit organization chosen by the scarf’s creator. The retail price is $195. The fundraiser launched in September 2023, but only Fairey’s was released on Giving Tuesday.

“We are grateful to Echo and especially to Shepard Fairey for choosing the 91´«Ã½ for this fundraiser,” said 91´«Ã½ President Emily Drabinski. “We are battling forces that would strip school and public libraries of classic works of literature, and more recent works by and about people of color and people in the LGBTQ community, and we are honored to be a recipient of this fundraiser celebrating Echo’s centennial.”
