The 91´«Ã½ and SAGE announced Jaimie L. Kicklighter as the recipient of the 2016 Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media.
Kicklighter holds a master’s degree in history and said she decided that a career in librarianship was for her during her archival internship when she discovered W.E.B. DuBois’ dental x-rays and saw the skill and ingenuity required to make resources available to the public.
Currently, Kicklighter works as a library technical specialist at Auburn University Special Collections & Archives. After earning her MLS, Kicklight wants to work with special collections utilizing technology to present materials in new ways to virtual users. One reference stated “I have nothing but the highest praise for Jaimie. She is a joy to be around and would be a wonderful, creative and hard-working colleague.” Another reference said “Jaimie is knowledgeable and performs every task at a very high level.”
Kicklighter will be attending Valdosta State University in Valdosta GA.
The Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media was created in memory of Peter Lyman, former university librarian and professor emeritus of the School of information at the University of California, Berkeley. Lyman’s research focused on online information, ethnographic analyses of online social relationships and communities, and bringing university librarians into the digital era. He was one of the first scholars to work with computer companies to design information technology appropriate for research and teaching.
