CHICAGO —Mary Beth Thomson, senior associate dean, Collections, Digital Scholarship and Technical Services, University of Kentucky, has been elected the 2017-2018 President of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS).

She previously held the position of head of Acquisitions and Collection Development at the University of Houston. Thomson holds an M.L.I.S from Louisiana State University and a B.A. from Texas Woman’s University.

An ALCTS member since 1990, Thomson is currently serving as a member of the ALCTS Advocacy and Planning Committee and was chair of the Transforming Collections Task Force in 2011-2013. She has served in a number of committee positions at the division and section level, including chair of the ALCTS Budget and Finance Committee, chair of the Acquisitions Section’s Education Committee and chair of the Collection Management Section’s Nominating Committee.

In addition to her ALCTS service, Thomson is a member of the Digital Preservation Network’s Pricing Committee, a member of the Library Publishing Coalition’s Finance Committee and a member of the State-Assisted Academic Library Council of Kentucky Collections Committee.

Jacquie Samples, head, Electronic Resources and Cataloging Section, Duke University Libraries, was elected to a three-year term as director-at-large to the ALCTS Board of Directors.

Elected as Section Chairs for 2017-2018 were: Acquisitions, Xan Arch, Reed College; Cataloging and Metadata Management, Susan Wynne, Georgia State University; Collection Management, Robin Champieux, Oregon Health & Science University; Continuing Resources, Gabby Wiersma, University of Colorado, Boulder; and Preservation and Reformatting, Ian Bogus, University of Pennsylvania.

ALCTS thanks all the candidates who stood for election as well as all the members who voted. ALCTS continues to thrive and grow because of our dedicated members willing to serve the Association.
