ASCLA members elect Smithee as 2017-2018 president

CHICAGO — Jeannette Smithee, retired and most recently the executive director of the Southeast Florida Library Information Network, (SEFLIN) from 2009 to 2015, has been elected the 2017-2018 president of the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA).

Smithee said, “ASCLA has been an important part of my professional life for more than 25 years. I have had the opportunity to work with incredibly dedicated ASCLA members over the years and I am excited about continuing to serve in a leadership role on the ASCLA Board.”

Prior to working as the executive director of SEFLIN, Smithee was the associate director for continuing education / community of learning, at SEFLIN and prior to that was the associate director at the Central New York Library Resources Council (CLRC). Currently, she is a member of the International Relations and Retired Members round tables.

Smithee has been active within the 91´«Ã½ and ASCLA for many years. An ASCLA board member on and off from 2003 to 2013, she was the ASCLA Conference program advisor from 2003-2006, the ASCLA Standards Review Committee chair from 2007 to 2010, the ASCLA ICAN Executive Committee chair from 2001 to 2002, the ASCLA ICAN Planning Committee chair from 1996 to 2000 and the ASCLA Library Consultants Interest Group chair from 2012 to 2013. Smithee has also held offices in state library associations, most recently as the Florida Library Association, chair, Library Personnel Recruitment Committee from 2007 to 2011.
