Dr. Chelton named 2016 winner of NoveList's Margaret E. Monroe Library Adult Services Award

CHICAGO-- Dr. Mary K. Chelton, retired professor, Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, Queen’s College, CUNY, was selected as this year’s winner of awarded by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA). The award honors a librarian who has made significant contributions to library adult services. Sponsored by , this award consists of $1,250 and a citation which will be presented at the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Annual Conference in Orlando.
“Dr. Chelton’s 27-year record of work in reference and readers’ advisory services makes her a clear choice,” said Committee Chair, Barry Trott. “Her elegant and thoughtful blending of theory and practice has helped to shape the library profession.”
“As a teacher, librarian, author, and presenter, Dr. Chelton has been a tireless advocate for providing library services that enrich the lives of our adult users. Her work in readers’ advisory services, particularly in the area of romance reading, was recognized when she received the first Librarian of the Year award from the Romance Writers of America in 1995. Dr. Chelton’s work has mirrored that of Margaret E. Monroe for whom this award is named, teaching, writing, and above all ceaselessly working to improve the library profession.”
The RUSA Achievement Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26 at the 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference in Orlando. All conference attendees are invited to the event. Additional event details will be available on the in April.
