New workshop with Loida Garcia-Febo: Serving Spanish Speakers in the Library

91´«Ã½

CHICAGO — 91´«Ã½ Publishing eLearning announces a new workshop, , with Loida Garcia-Febo. This workshop will last 90 minutes and is hosted live at 2:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015.

The 54 million Hispanics and Latinos in the U.S. make up 17% of the total U.S. population—and the numbers are rapidly growing. Libraries are vital centers for Latinos and other Spanish speakers, and librarians need to keep up when it comes to both serving and reaching out to this population, and making them aware of library services. Don’t speak Spanish? No worries, this doesn’t mean that you can’t find other ways to serve your Spanish-speaking patrons.

In this workshop, Loida Garcia-Febo will cover topics such as how to know your library service area and the community you serve and how to use data to develop collections, programs, services, marketing and outreach to build a library community that is welcoming. She will also share models from libraries in the U.S. and other countries in the Latin America region that you can adapt and implement as you improve upon current strategies in your library.

You will also learn:

  • basics about how to identify demographics for the communities you serve;
  • how to develop a customized library profile framework;
  • how to build a customized basic plan to serve your patrons.

The result is increased knowledge and a framework to successfully build effective library programs and services reflecting the specific communities you serve. Now, who is ready to get comenzado (started)?
