LITA members elect Fifarek as president-elect; Smith and Varnum to board

91´«Ã½

CHICAGO — Aimee Fifarek is the newly elected vice-president/president-elect of the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½). Fifarek is deputy library director for IT and digital initiatives at Phoenix Public Library in Phoenix, Arizona.

Fifarek said, “Over the years LITA has provided me with extraordinary resources that have allowed me to excel throughout my career. Like everything else in our profession today, LITA is entering a time of great change. In a time of decreasing membership and increasing difficulty of finding professional development funds, LITA's challenge is to figure out how to continue delivering extraordinary value to our members while knowing that they are less likely to be able to travel to conferences to reap the benefits. As LITA Vice President I will work with the rest of the LITA Board to prepare our organization to meet these and other challenges.”

This year there are two newly elected directors-at-large. Susan Sharpless Smith, associate dean, Z. Smith Reynolds Library at Wake Forest University, and, Ken Varnum, Web systems manager, University of Michigan, have been elected to three-year terms.
